Moving Around Toronto During TIFF

For ten days in September, the streets you would normally use are the streets that are closed.

Toronto Events

What changes during the festival

King Street West between the main venues becomes a pedestrian and event zone for parts of the festival, with rolling closures around premieres. Roy Thomson Hall, the Princess of Wales, the Royal Alexandra and the Lightbox all sit within a few blocks, which is convenient on foot and genuinely difficult by vehicle.

Add the volume of private cars, industry shuttles and press vehicles moving between the same venues on the same schedule, and normal drive times stop applying entirely.

How chauffeurs handle it

Our chauffeurs work the festival every year and follow the daily closure notices rather than a map application. That means drop-off points that change by day and by screening, and pickup points agreed in advance rather than negotiated at a barricade.

For premieres with press lines, arrival timing is set by the event rather than by you. Tell us which screening and we will build the arrival around the venue's schedule, not around an optimistic estimate of the drive.

Practical planning for festival days

  • Book hourly if you have several screenings in a day. Point-to-point bookings assume predictable roads, and in September they are not.
  • Allow more time between screenings than the distance suggests. Two venues four hundred metres apart can be twenty minutes by vehicle.
  • Agree pickup points at drop-off, every time.
  • Consider walking the short legs and using the vehicle for the ones that matter — hotel, airport, dinner in another neighbourhood, the late party.

Travelling to Toronto, or out of it?

Most trips that need a chauffeur also need a flight, a hotel or a car at the other end. BookingWorldwide.net covers all three — useful for wedding guests flying in, corporate teams heading to a conference, and anyone building a trip around the ride we are providing.

Straight answers

Frequently asked

Can you drop us at the red carpet?

At the point the venue and police designate for the screening on that day. For premieres those arrangements are set by the event, and we work to them rather than around them.

Is a car worth it if the venues are walking distance apart?

For the venue-to-venue legs, often not. It earns its money on the airport transfers, the hotel runs, dinner in another neighbourhood and the late-night parties — which is when walking stops being appealing.

Do you handle talent and industry transport?

Yes, including multi-day programmes with a consistent chauffeur, discretion as standard and billing to a production or corporate account.
