What every passenger needs
Every person in the vehicle, including children, needs valid travel documents for entry to the United States and re-entry to Canada. Names on the booking should match the documents. Anyone travelling with a child who is not their own, or without the other parent, should carry a consent letter — officers do ask.
We send a plain-English reminder before the trip. It is not legal advice and it is not a substitute for checking your own status, but it prevents the most common problem: someone discovering at the booth that their permanent resident card expired.
Choosing a crossing
For Buffalo and western New York, the Peace Bridge and the Queenston-Lewiston bridge are the usual options; for Detroit, the Ambassador Bridge and the tunnel.
